Christian Urzì, PhD Student of the collaborative research group of Prof. Dr. Peter Vermathen (Magnetic Resonance in Medicine Group (DIN-DBMR) and Department for BioMedical Research) and Prof. Dr. Jean-Marc Nuoffer (University Institute of Clinical Chemistry), won at the 9th Annual International Conference of the Metabolomics Society in Niagara Falls, Canada, the Student Travel Award for his presentation entitled “Intra- and Extracellular Metabolic Investigation of Perfused Fibroblasts by Real-time NMR Allows for Better Discrimination of Mitochondrial Defects”. The project was already selected for a prize in the Mitochondrial Medicine Conference 2022, in Cambridge. This method, that allows to perform Intra- and Extracellular Metabolic Investigation of Living Perfused Cells with the NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), was applied on different deficient cell lines and led to separation of control and of the different defects as well as to the identification of interesting biomarkers.
